Many people look for spiritual guidance or uplifting in their life and where you live may have an impact on how you feel about life. This is why it is inevitable many people will consider buying a home on the site of a vicarage that is no longer in use. If you believe that this sort of land may have a higher purpose in life, the plans for new homes on the site of the former St George’s vicarage, in Davenport in Stockport could be of interest.
Of course, you don’t need to have any religious or spiritual leanings to be on the lookout for new and affordable property in Stockport. At Spencer Harvey, we know that there is a great level of interest in property in the area and anything which helps to alleviate some of the pressure in the property market has to be seen as a positive thing. The recent protests around the proposed green belt property development plans shows that not every housing project is welcomed but there is definitely a lot to be said for this project.
The building has been empty for 15 years
After all, the building has been empty for 15 years so doing anything with the building has to be better than what is taking place right now. The vicarage is a Grade II listed building and there has been two years of studies undertaken on how to make the most of the site. Unfortunately, the site has been the victim of arson attacks and vandalism has taken place but if work gets underway, it is expected to have a hugely positive impact on the property.
If the plans are accepted, the vicarage will be demolished and three and four bedroom homes will be constructed in place of the vicarage.
A planning application was provided to the local council earlier in December and public consultation has already taken place. There is now a consultation period taking place, which will run until the 9th of December and it is hoped that a decision will be reached in spring. The church itself, St George’s, is still very much in place, and it holds a Grade I listed status. The developers have expressed their intention of providing stunning views of the church spire and of the western elevation.
Anything which brings good quality housing to Stockport has to be considered. The fact that these plans include demolishing a Grade II listed building means some people will not be impressed by the plans but on the whole, this is likely to be a move that many people will get behind.
You don’t need to have a religious mind-set to be thankful for progress being made in the Stockport area with respect to more homes for families!
