TRANSPORT IMPROVEMENTS FOR STOCKPORT?

Transport Improvements For Stockport?

The state of your daily commute is a crucial factor in how much enjoyment you get from life. It is fair to say that many people don’t particularly enjoy their work, so if the journey to and from your work isn’t fun, your day is going to move slowly. Even when you get home you will likely feel angry, annoyed or aggrieved about what you’d just endured, and this can start to eat into your free time. Before you know it, you are miserable or downbeat for too much of your free time and don’t get us started on how you feel when Sunday rolls around knowing that it all starts again the next morning.

Therefore local councils, including the town council in Stockport, are developing a strategy to take on the problem of congestion and reduce travel time should be seen as a positive step. This work is being undertaken alongside Transport for Greater Manchester and Cheshire East Council. It is hoped that solutions can be found to minimise the problems in the A34, the A352 and the A6 corridors. There is also a chance for the public to have their say with the public consultations open now, having begun on Wednesday the 14th of March.

SEMMMS is closing in on 20 years old

All of the parties are working collaboratively in order to update the South East Manchester Multi Modal Strategy, or SEMMMS which it is sometimes known as. SEMMMS was set up in 2001 with an intention of creating a 20-year transport plan for South-East Manchester. A key component of SEMMS was the Manchester Airport Relief Road, which is being developed at this time and work has also taken place on the Poynton Relief Road.

Transport strategy updates are required in South East Manchester

Given that 2021 is not far away, there is a need to update SEMMMS. There have also been many changes with respect to the size of the local population, so there are many factors that must be considered in local life. Therefore, it is hoped that SEMMMS will be extended up to 2040, creating an outline for further work to be carried out.
