One issue that many towns and cities have is how to preserve the traditional feel of an area while ensuring that there is a modern infrastructure in place. This is something that the local council have been plagued by but there will be plenty of people who are quick to say that time stands still in Stockport. This can be a compliment or a criticism depending on your point of view but at this moment, it is also a statement of fact. If you are moving around Stockport, you’ll know that many of the public timepieces in Stockport no longer state the right time or actually work!
One clock that has caused some problems for many people is the clock at the DWP building, located on Wellington Road South. The clock is an hour slow and this will definitely have caused a few people some concern and maybe even led to some heart-stopping moments. Can you imagine if you were rushing to a meeting only to see the clock tell you that you had a lot more time to spare? That could lead you to making a bad decision so you have to be on your guard when you are moving around Stockport town centre.
So many clocks are out of time in Stockport
If this was the only clock in the area that was out of time it would be annoying but not too bad but it seems as though there is a range of dodgy clocks in and around Stockport. The Winters Clock tells you that it is 3.30, no matter when you look and the clock for the Union Bank of Manchester, which is found on Bridge Street, is running slow by 75 minutes. Add in the Wellington Road South McDonalds branches, both of which are being refurbished, have incorrect clocks and you’d be forgiven for not knowing if you were coming and going.
The biggest culprit has to be the clocks found on the Primark building though because there are four of them and at the last time of looking, they were all wrong!
Stockport Town Hall is normally a safe bet if you are out and about, so if you need to know the time and don’t have your watch or a phone with you, that’s what to look out for.

Of course, it’d be best if you checked the time on a watch or through your TV or internet as opposed to relying any clocks you may find in the local area!
