STOCKPORT TOWN CENTRE IS ON THE UP

Stockport Town Centre Is On The Up

With the shop set to bring 20 new jobs to the local community and provide a place for residents, local workers, commuters and travellers to shop, there is no doubt that this sort of development will be positive for the local community. Any time a major brand name, particularly one in the supermarket or grocery sector, moves into an area, there needs to be reflection on any impact on existing local businesses but in this case, the involvement of Sainsbury’s appears to be seen as a positive thing.

A lot of this is down to the fact that it is not just a Sainsbury’s store coming to Stockport Exchange, the new store is part of a massive development project. The fact that Sainsbury’s are the first big name in the new commercial unit, in a scheme that is said to cost £145m has to be seen as a positive step and hopefully it will not be too long until other names are announced and the make-up of the new commercial scheme starts to take shape.

Stockport Train Station will look better than ever

Most local residents will agree that the area opposite and around Stockport Train Station has been in need of improvement for quite a while. While a train station can be seen as a necessary stopping point as part of the daily commute or wider travel, to many in a local community, it is a big part of modern life and it reflects the thoughts and feelings of the local community. The better and brighter this area looks, the greater sense of pride local residents will have in the community, and the more attractive the areas will be for people looking for a new home. Upgrading the area around Stockport Train Station can have a positive impact on the mentality and psychology that exists in this part of town and with a 50,000 sq ft Grade A office building currently under construction, it can only be hoped that things are on the up when it comes to Stockport.

The new office block will be a five storey building and this comes in the second phase of the gateway development in the town. Muse Developments are working alongside the local council to undertake the regeneration work, which will also feature improved road layouts around the station, a public space outside of the train station and a 115 bed Holiday Inn Express. These are all subtle, yet important changes, that will hopefully have a positive impact on Stockport, making it a more suitable and attractive place for investors, property buyers and families.

At Spencer Harvey, we welcome any development in the local area and we take this as a positive sign for Stockport. If you would like to talk about the impact this has on the Stockport property market, come along and see us and we’ll be happy to talk about the local market.
