STOCKPORT RESIDENTS WANT LESS MUSIC

Stockport Residents Want Less Music

There are many things that can impact on the quality of your home life, and as a property owner, it is important that you take steps to maximise the enjoyment you get from home. This means that you should take care of your home and you should look to ensure that your garden is in as good a condition as possible. However, you may also want to take steps to ensure the local community is to your liking and this is an act that Stockport residents are more than happy to take.

In recent times there have been many protests regarding building properties on green belt areas in Stockport, which indicates that there is a strong level of passion and care for the local community. Even if you don’t fully agree with the actions or opinions of people, it is positive to see local residents taking such a big step in caring about their community. It also seems that many local residents have complained to Stockport Council about events that are held on Whitebottom Farm and a committee will rule on the future of these events on the 24th of May.

This is a private venue, located next to the Etherow Country Park and four times a year, music festivals are held here. The Blackthorn Festival is probably the biggest of these festivals and it brings a number of major acts to the local area. This year there is a 1990s theme to the line-up with Lightning Seeds, Space and Reef are set to play at the festival, which is scheduled to take place in late July.

However, local residents have complained that the area isn’t able to cope with the crowds, which can number up to 3,500 people a day, and that the music is obtrusively loud. There have also been complaints that festival goers drop litter, damage property, drink in public and use drugs.

There is a disagreement between the complaining group and the people that run Whitebottom Farm. The complainers say that close to 100 people are in agreement with the objections raised but the farm has said that no official bodies have complained at that those who aren’t in favour of the farm are in a minority.

The group says around 100 people agree with their objections but Karl Hancock, from Whitebottom Farm, says this is still a minority and no official bodies have complained.

At Spencer Harvey, we think that music festivals in the local area are a great idea but local residents can be greatly affected by these events and the inconsiderate actions of festival-goers. It may be that there is scope for a compromise that will ensure everyone is happy and that the events can go ahead as planned.
