STOCKPORT PROPERTY PROTESTS CONTINUE

Stockport Property Protests Continue

While it is obvious that there is a need for more homes to be built in Greater Manchester, and in the Stockport area, it seems as though there is significant disagreement about where the buildings should be constructed. There are plans to bring over 8,000 new properties to a green belt area in Cheadle but it looks as though the opposition to this work is continuing at great pace. There have been protests and debate about the plans which would bring three key developments to the area but with many local residents saying the work will impact on protected land, this is an argument that will continue long into 2017.

The local council, to be fair to them, have constructed major plans for the housing issues, and there are plans in place for the next two decades. However, the fact that the green belt area of Stockport looks set to be hugely affected has led to a level of protest that not many would have predicted. It is perhaps the fact that there are three separate projects lined up for Cheadle that is causing most problems and as you would expect, local MPs and councillors are not missing an opportunity to get involved in an argument that allows them to be seen and heard.

The plans have been called an inappropriate development

Mary Robinson is a Conservative MP and she is strongly opposed to the work proposed in the plans. She has classed the work as “inappropriate development” and she is fronting a campaign that aims to protect the area.

The plans aim to bring 2,400 new homes to the Woodford Garden Village which is found at the site of the old aerodrome. There is also 3,700 homes set to be added in Heald Green by the A34 and then there are plans for over 2,000 more homes to be built at Outwood Farm. A petition containing 2,700 petitions was submitted to Parliament last week by the Conservative MP with a call for building work to take place on brownfield sites as opposed to green belt areas. There has also been two action groups set up, the Save Heald Green Greenbelt group and the Woodford Neighbourhood Forum, both of which oppose the proposals that have been made.

Whether the plans are acted upon or they are dismissed, there will be a big impact on the Stockport and Greater Manchester property market. This is why we are very interested in all of the developments of this story.
