Stockport Lawyers Provide Reasons For Housing Market Demand

At Spencer Harvey, we like to stay in touch with local news and the thoughts of local companies. This helps us to remain informed as to what is happening in Stockport. We use this information alongside our property market expertise, and our knowledge, to provide you with a high standard of service.

We know there has been a high level of activity in the housing market since the re-opening of the housing sector in mid-May. Much of this activity relates to the property deals which were placed on hold when lockdown occurred.

Some people need to move home

There have also been people whose circumstances have changed looking to move home. We also know some people have experienced a change in relationship status, leading to a demand for homes and rental accommodation. This is an issue which has been highlighted by a local law company.

Anita Scorah is a partner at SAS Daniels, and she spoke to the Marketing Stockport team, saying; “In the past few weeks, we have seen an upsurge in divorce instructions from new clients. Whilst we had anticipated a rise following the enforced proximity of lockdown, interestingly, we are mostly experiencing couples who remain on good terms, but who have decided their marriage has reached its natural end.”

This has been a stressful time in many households

There is no denying everyone has been under considerable stress and pressure in the past few months. While new issues will have come to the fore in many relationships, many people will have found that existing issues have been exacerbated.

Anita continued by saying; “Rather than acrimony and hostility having broken marriages apart, many have discussed matters between themselves and are looking for a civilised and amicable winding-up of a situation which has simply not been positively working for either of them for some time. These new couples are looking to navigate their way out of a relationship that has run its course.”

While things are starting to move forward, we are still a long way from normality. People have been forced to consider issues which they might never have done before, and there is a need for people to make informed decisions.

Anita also said; “Sadly, the COVID-19 situation has stalled the introduction of the new no-fault divorce legislation; however, it is possible to work the current system to enable separate living with effective shared parenting. Being locked down together seems to have, out of necessity, engendered a more composed and calm approach to what has historically been a more typically discordant and volatile time.”

At Spencer Harvey, we believe one of the reasons there was so much activity in the housing market when it re-opened related to a change in people’s circumstances. Households where the employment status changed or the relationship changed would have been looking to move, and we believe this drove initial demand.

No matter what people need from the property market right now, and for whatever reason, we are local property market specialists here to help.
