A planning application has been submitted for the next phase of the regeneration scheme at Stockport Exchange. The application, which is a reserved matters planning application, has been submitted by Muse Developments and Stockport Council, will hopefully see the next step in the £145m scheme take shape. There have been significant changes in Stockport in recent times but it is vital that the regeneration work continues, so this is a positive step in the local community.
The key aspect of this scheme will see the creation of a new six storey office building, which is said to cover 60,000 sq ft. The building will be referred to as Two Stockport Exchange and it will be placed adjacent to One Stockport Exchange. The office building will hold a Grade A classification and there are hopes that the development will bring 350 jobs to the town centre of Stockport. There is already an outline planning approval in place and if all goes well, this will be the third phase of the Stockport Exchange project.
Big names are involved with Stockport
This follows on from the second phase which was completed in December of 2016. This was well received and One Stockport Exchange was fully let within a six month period of it opening. Local success story musicMagpie commandeered one floor for the head of its UK empire and Stagecoach have taken over the remaining three floors of the building. With Sainsbury’s and a coffee shop also being available on the ground floor, this development saw over 200 jobs being brought to the town centre area.
The development work also saw the Holiday Inn Express, with 155 beds, come to the area and the public space outside of the train station in Stockport was pedestrianised. There was also improvement work to the access routes to the station.
It is hoped that if planning consent is granted that onsite work will begin in the summer of 2018 with the work being completed for spring of 2020.
While this sort of work is more about the business community in Stockport, anything which is good for local firms will be good for the community and the housing market in general. Bringing further jobs to the area and promoting Stockport as a vibrant place to stay can only be a boost, both for existing residents and people looking to sell homes in the area. While Stockport is a fantastic destination for commuters, it is also a place where people can work and socialise locally and the Stockport Exchange development is a fantastic example of this.
