STOCKPORT DEVELOPMENTS CAN BOOST PROPERTY MARKET

When it comes to transforming an area, one or two developments can have a huge impact. Anything which promises to bring jobs and income to an area has to be a good thing for the local community and Stockport has been boosted by the fact that two sizable developments have been provided planning permission. It is not as though Stockport property owners should be slapping their property on the market today and hoping for a huge return but this sort of news can only be good for a local area.

First of all, planning approval has been provided for the Redrock leisure scheme in the town centre, and this is a project said to be worth £45m. For current Stockport residents, the high points of the new development include a 10 screen cinema, a range of restaurants and a vastly expanded shopping area. These are the sort of amenities that have a positive impact on a community, boosting the spirit of people in an area.

Leisure opportunities provide fun and benefits

It can be all too easy to be dismissive of leisure outlets like this but it is the sort of thing that can change a community, providing it with a purpose. There will be a reduced need to head into Manchester to socialise with friends or have a fun day out. There will hopefully be an increase in the availability of jobs in the local market and when one form of investment comes in, there is a good chance that other investment will follow.  Work is set to begin later on in 2016 and there is hope that the site will be occupied by 2017, which fits with earlier estimates which suggest the complex would be complete by Autumn of 2017.

The Redrock development by itself would be cause for optimism but there has also been approval granted for development work at Gorsey Bank. This will see more than 145,000 sq ft of light industrial units being created and the local council has referred to this development as providing “employment space” to the local area. There is also improvement work scheduled for the riverside path and open space areas around the units, so there will be a notable impact on the local community.

2016 and 2017 will be busy years in Stockport

Work on this project is scheduled to start some point later in the year and it is hoped that the first of the units will be occupied next year.

Like many areas in the south of Manchester, Stockport is viewed as a good place for families to live and the town lies within easy commuter reach of Manchester. These two developments may help to bolster the town’s ability to stand on its own two feet, providing people with more opportunities to spend their working hours and leisure time in Stockport.
