When it comes to music scenes in the United Kingdom, you don’t get many that are more celebrated than Manchester. Acts like Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses and Oasis rank highly amongst the most loved bands the country has ever delivered and they all hail from the Manchester music scene. There are also countless bands at a slightly smaller level who have a devoted fan base that have put Manchester firmly on the map when it comes to fantastic music.
The fact that there is such a strong Manchester scene means that areas on the outskirts of the city or which are part of Greater Manchester can get sucked into the larger entity. This is good because it can help a band be part of a bigger scene but it can also mean that bands lose a bit of local colour and their own unique identity which would set them apart from other bands.
An amazing summer for the Stockport band
This is why it is great to see Blossoms staying close to their Stockport roots. The band has had an amazing summer, playing at the Etihad supporting the Stone Roses and they’ve enjoyed a lot of success at festivals all across the UK. However, they release their debut album on the 5th of August and the great news is that the band will be playing live in the Stockport Plaza to celebrate their debut record. As soon as the clock ticks over from Thursday the 4th of May into Friday, the band will take to the stage and play in celebration of the release.
The band will be heading to Manchester for two gigs on the 7th of August, including a matinee performance, but the fact that Blossoms are staying in Stockport for their debut release is great news. The band is hot property at the moment and their desire to shine a light on the local area will hopefully have a positive impact on any other Stockport bands or budding musicians in the local area.
Tapping into the Manchester music scene makes sense because it is a recognised entity all around the world, but equally, it can be easy to get lost amongst all of the bands performing under that banner. The fact that Blossoms are staying close to their Stockport roots is a great sign for the local community and something which reflects very well on the group itself.
At Spencer Harvey, we wish the band all the very best with their debut album and hopefully they’ll spark a wave of new bands and maybe even a Stockport scene! We know a thing or two about hot property in Stockport and this group deserves to be classed in this manner.
