Boost to a local area can come in many different areas and there is a hope that Stockport and the Greater Manchester area will experience a boost in the near future. This latest hope falls on the plans that have been submitted to develop the Poynton Relief Road. The project is said to be a £30m project and it has been tipped to ease congestion levels while boosting the economic development and growth at a local level. These plans will be decided upon in early to mid-January and there is an expectation that the plans will be approved.
The plans are based around a single carriageway which runs for 3km in both directions. The new road will create a junction with another road that is under construction, the A6 Manchester Airport Relief Road, otherwise known as the A6MARR. It is also expected that the new road will connect with the Adlington Business park, which again will boost business while helping local traffic issues.
Long term progress can negate short term upheaval from development work
While the long term prospects and benefits of these roads always sound appealing, they often cause a lot of disruption in the short term. This is also something that has been considered and a number of junction improvements have been flagged up to alleviate some of the pressure that building a new road can cause. Work on the relief road is expected to take a period of 14 months if approved, so there will be an impact on local life. The thing is though, progress and development will always lead to short term unpleasantness and upheaval but the fact that there are plans to minimise these issues should be considered as a positive step.
The application has been put forward by the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and the Cheshire East Council, with the proposal has been recommended for approval at the 10th of January meeting. The Stockport council is already reviewing the planning application for the work that falls within their boundary remit.
It seems as though there are many plans and proposals being cited and submitted in the Stockport area at the moment and there is a great deal going on. Not all of the proposals have been universally agreed but in the grand scheme of things, the work and effort that is being undertaken to improve Stockport and make local life better is pleasing.
At Spencer Harvey, we believe that Stockport is already a fantastic choice in the Greater Manchester region but anything which helps to improve the area has to be seen as a positive thing for the community. 2017 looks like being a big and busy year in Stockport.
