Buying a home is likely to be the most important or biggest investment you make in your life, so it is vital that you carry out a high level of research. While you may never be 100% confident about buying a home and no one can predict the future, you need to make sure that you know as much as you can about the home and that you are happy with the decision that you have made.
There has been a reminder of this in the Stockport property market recently, and while this is a rather extreme example, it does stand as a reason to carry out a high level of research on any home that you are interested in buying.
The property in question is the two-bedroom semi-detached property that used to be the home of Dale Cregan. Cregan is notorious for killing two police officers in 2012. While the home itself is in good condition, you can see why some people would not be happy to own a home with such history behind it, and this led to the home being sold at auction for a second time in as many months.
The property was initially bought in April of this year but it seems as though the buyer was unaware of its history. This led to the first buyer placing the property back on the market, and it was once again available at the Sale Sharks AJ Bell Stadium. This time around the property sold for £80,000 which is double the original guide price of the property when it was put on sale back in August. This means that there was some good news for the seller who decided to move the property on rather quickly but the whole process would likely have been quite stressful and problematic for the buyer.
There will be many people who will not have any concerns or worries about a history of this nature when buying a home. After all, unless you are buying a “new-build” property, there will be previous owners all with their own story. When you buy a home, you have the chance to create your own memories and enjoy good times but it is clear that some people cannot get past the thought of certain owners or people having lived in their premises.
This is a very unusual situation and not one that most property buyers have to bear in mind, but it does stand as a good reminder to carry out research on any home you are looking to buy.
