Need A New Home? Life Is Looking Up In Stockport

It appears there will be a new development in Stockport. This is because progress has been made on the proposals being put forward by Urbanize. This move will bring a 164-apartment block to the heart of Stockport town centre. This is a major development, but it is smaller than the development that was initially planned.

This is because the development was set to be 22 stores high, but this has now been cut back to 13. This is a significant decrease but there will be many people who feel that 13 stories and close to 170 apartments is enough for a single project!

A lot of apartments are coming to Stockport

The development will take place on the former Greenhale House site. The building will host 78 one-bedroom apartments, 84 two-bedroom apartments and there will be two three-bedroom apartments in the new development. There is going to be a commercial unit located on the ground floor and it is likely that this will become a coffee shop.

With so many people exiting from the apartment every morning on their work, you can expect that to be a busy coffee shop!

More importantly, nine of the apartments in the development have been set aside as affordable apartments. This is positive news and it is in line with the planning policy being undertaken by Stockport.

The development has been designed by Day Architectural and it is believed that on the lower levels, there will be off-white cladding. At higher levels, there will be metal cladding used and this should have a contrasting effect.

Landscaping creates a more effective area

The proposals suggest that a podium of over 4,000 sq ft will be created, and this will be landscaped for use by the residents. Parking has also been included in the proposals, so hopefully, there will be sufficient support for the everyday life aspects that can make or break a property development.

There had been notable criticism for the previous proposal which scaled 22 storeys, but it appears this plan has been welcomed. In fact, it has been recommended for approval by the planning committee in Stockport.

The planners’ report said: “The proposal will offer scope for attracting inward investment and job creation into this part of Stockport, as well as introducing an enhanced retail offer in a town centre location, the provision of affordable housing and the provision of a significant number of residential units during a period of under-supply”.

The team which will include Day Architectural will also be able to call on Euan Kellie Property Solutions.
