There is no denying that Greater Manchester has a lot to offer for property buyers and people looking to set up home. There is naturally a lot of focus on Manchester city centre but there are so many great areas in the wider region and the level of high-level backing that Greater Manchester projects has received is an indicator that this is an area on the up. This can be seen with the launch of a campaign to attract foreign investment to a range of local projects that are worth close to be £2bn.
The Department for International Trade, or the DIT, is shining a light on five important developments, which are:
- Stockport Exchange
- Trafford Waters
- Future Carrington
- MediaCityUK
- Projects belonging to the Property Alliance Group portfolio
This is part of a wider campaign shining a light on close to 70 projects which hold a total value of more than £30 billion. There is a new website that has been set up to entice global investors into the very best of British projects. In addition to the Greater Manchester options, the Northern Powerhouse is well represented. There are listed option in Cheshire, Wirral Waters, Leeds and Liverpool, which indicates that there is an awful lot going on in the north of England.
Stockport is seen as part of the high potential opportunities in the north of England
This is all part of the High Potential Opportunities, or HPO, scheme that has been set up by the Government to drive attention and interest to areas as opposed to individual projects. The scheme has been piloted in the Greater Manchester region, which is why so many projects in the area have been highlighted. The DIT believes that the Greater Manchester area provides a “unique” ecosystem for investors, and we hope that isn’t a jibe about the weather in Manchester and surrounding areas.
The International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox, said; “This is a bold and ambitious programme, building on the UK's position as the leading destination for foreign investment in Europe through the government's Industrial Strategy, helping to build a Britain fit for the future. The High Potential Opportunities scheme will deliver growth where it is most needed, ensuring that the benefits of global investment are felt in every part of the country. And with more than £30 billion worth of new opportunities, my international economic department’s overseas network is working hard to attract top investors to the UK.”
