Manchester is on the rise and it is natural that people want to live in the area. The start of a new student term has made the city centre seem busier but it is not as if the increase in demand is just down to students. With more job options and a vibrant city to make the most of, Manchester naturally draws people in and this is placing the rental market under extreme pressure.
A recent investigation by a leading local newspaper and online site into the rental market has raised eyebrows and indicated how competitive the Manchester property market is.
Some of the headline issues raised by the investigation include:
- Up to 10 enquiries being made for each city centre flat
- Apartments receiving around 3 to 4 offers every time
- Some properties move so quickly that they are let in an hour
- Prices are rising rapidly in the city centre, sometimes by £75 a month
Living in the heart of the city centre is attractive and people will naturally gravitate to these areas. Getting extra time in bed in the morning is always going to be appealing and if you can walk to and from work, there is a chance to save money. There is also the fact that many people appreciate having a wide range of entertainment options right on their doorstep.
Manchester is appealing but it isn’t the only option
It is easy to see why young professionals, students and even people experiencing a new lease of life want to stay in the heart of Manchester, but with the market place being so crowded, it makes sense to look slightly further afield.
The value for money of life in the heart of Manchester is diminishing, but it is not as if there are no other options available in Greater Manchester. It may not be the sexiest area that people dream of but when it comes to enjoying what Manchester has to offer and finding an affordable property, it may be that Stockport is the solution for many people’s accommodation problems.
The fact that you can get a train from Stockport Station to Manchester Piccadilly Station which takes ten minutes should be all the motivation you need to consider Stockport as a place to buy or rent away from the city centre of Manchester. Even driving takes just over 30 minutes (on a good day, so probably not on a morning commute to work but it is an option) so it is easy to set up home in Stockport and still obtain the very best of what Manchester has to offer.
Finding the ideal home, even for rental purposes, requires balance and making the best overall decision. The wide range of benefits of Stockport life may be far more appealing than getting involved with the clamour for Manchester city centre accommodation.
