GOOD STOCKPORT CAUSES CAN GRAB CASH

Good Stockport Causes Can Grab Cash

There is no denying that times are tough and money is difficult for many important groups in Stockport, so it is always good to hear of a helping hand. The Vernon Building Society is stepping up to the plate once more and for the sixth consecutive year; they are giving away £10,000 to worthy causes in Stockport. The fund was set up in 2012 and so far has provided more than £50,000 to local charity groups and community causes, which is a figure that is well worth celebrating.

The scheme is up and running again this year and they want to hear from groups who have made a difference in their local community and who are looking to provide a benefit in the years to the come. All of the applications will be reviewed by the Jubilee Fund Panel and then a shortlist of 16 finalists will be selected. There will then be a public vote, which can be done via tokens from a local newspaper or via Facebook, to determine how much money each group receives.

Any support is welcome in Stockport

Each charity or community group will receive a minimum of £100 and the remaining £8,400 will then be divided by the total number of votes received to determine the value of each vote.

The minimum amount provided to a charity or community group will be £100 and the remaining money, at the moment expected to be £8,400, will be divided up on the basis of how many votes the organisation receives. This means that there is a genuine incentive to promote the group and make sure as many people in the local area support the cause and get voting. This alone may be of significant benefit to a group or cause because it will help promote their work and place themselves in front of a new audience.

In order to be involved in the process, the organisations must be based in, or be in a position to benefit, the postcode areas of SK1, SK2, SK3, SK4,SK5, SK6, SK7, SK8 or SK12. Sadly for Spencer Harvey, commercial enterprises are not able to be considered, nor are individuals, political groups, groups that promote a religious cause or which provides activities that benefit animals. Some people will find the criteria disappointing but this is definitely something that can boost the local community, which is something that we are very interested in.
