While it is always sad to hear of prominent places of the local history being removed, it is pleasing to hear progress is being made in Stockport. We can all agree there is a need for more homes in and around Stockport. Therefore, plans for a five-storey apartment block in Hazel Grove has been welcomed by people in the local area.
The Woodman Inn pub will be replaced with a development which hosts 34 flats. The flats will be a mixture of one and two-bedroom properties. The developer, Kirkland Developments, is said to be committed to delivering a high-quality scheme.
The developer released a statement saying; “The resulting benefits will not only help future residents of the development, but will provide much needed housing to the borough as well as generating wider community benefits by improving the street scene along London Road and increasing footfall and activity within the district centre of Hazel Grove.”
There are many useful facilities in the area
The premises have been boarded up for close to ten years, but it is in a busy location. Located on the A6, there are several shops and takeaway restaurants close by, and there is also the Anchor Inn pub.
The developers also said; “The proposed residential development has been designed to reflect the site’s prominent location and seeks to deliver a high-quality scheme that respects the character of the area and delivers regeneration benefits. The scheme will add value to the area in respect of architecture and social well-being as well as contributing to the delivery of much needed new housing in the borough.”
While the way people look at homes and their local community will change in the aftermath of COVID-19, it is likely people will want to have a greater connection with their local surroundings. There might be changes to the way people work, which may influence some buying decisions regarding the importance of the commute. However, the way people have bonded with neighbours in their area of late will likely see people looking to live in areas that have a thriving community.
Secure bike parking will be added to the facility
A total of 15 car parking spaces will be made available at the property, and three of these spaces will be allocated for disabled residents. The facility will also feature secure storage for up to 40 bicycles. It is good to see new developments committing to supporting environmental issues. Allocating safe and secure bike parking facilities will encourage people to cycle more, which will hopefully help them save money, improve their health and play a role in improving the local area.
If plans are approved, there will be funding provided by Homes England, in the form of a grant, while a loan will be provided by the local council’s Housing Revenue Account. The extent of the loan hasn’t been stated due to financial confidentiality. Stockport Council will own the apartments and Stockport Homes will manage them.
