COULD BREXIT IMPACT ON STOCKPORT PROPERTY MARKET?

With the flag of the European Union flying above Stockport Town Hall, you would be forgiven for assuming that the local council are sending out a message to local residents. Unless you have been on the moon or you blank all communication and media channels, but still manage to make your way to this website, you’ll know that there is an awful lot of talk about Britain’s role in Europe. There is a vote looming and you have the chance to have your say in whether Great Britain should remain in the European Union of if we should go it alone.

The local council have denied the suggestion that they were promoting remaining within the EU saying that the flag was raised to celebrate European Day but you know what people are like these days. It is impossible to do something like this without accusations being made or people thinking that you have an agenda in your actions. You are free to vote however you want to, but it makes sense to do some research and determine what will suit your needs. With this in mind, it is easy to see why many people are wondering whether Brexit will impact on the local property market.

You may laugh this off, refusing to believe that the delights of Stockport and surrounding areas in greater Manchester are the talk of European cities and delegates but when you think of the importance of Manchester, and the strength of Manchester Airport, you have the situation where Stockport is on the radar for many major companies and their employees.

Manchester welcomes a lot of European businesses and professionals

With Manchester being deemed as location for major international investment, there does need to be consideration about the impact of Britain leaving the EU and whether businesses would leave. If there was no longer an economic accord for firms to be located in the city, you could see businesses leave, which would immediately hit the local job market, which in turn would damage the property market.

The thing is though, even if the vote does lean towards Brexit, there is nothing to actually suggest that firms will leave the country. People canvassing for a Leave vote are saying that this is a potential outcome and those canvassing for a Stay outcome are stating that this is a very unlikely outcome. It may be that your thoughts and feelings on the people involved or other statements that they make will influence what you feel about their comments.

At this point in time, there is nothing to suggest that Brexit would have a negative impact on the property market but it is certainly something you should consider.
